Dr Whiting on Diabetes & Our Research 5 of 10

Type II diabetes is the most epidemic chronic disease in the world! Type II diabetes for the most part, is dietary induced and is driven by an over-consumption of sugary and starchy foods. Just a few decades ago diabetes was rare by comparison to today. Also at that time, people consumed on a fraction of the sugar foods of today. Type II diabetes is often completely controllable by diet and exercise. Natural programs for managing diabetes include regular exercise and controlling the intake of sugar-forming foods. These foods, which make up the staple of the industrialized diet, are at the heart of the diabetes problem. Managing diabetes naturally can be very effective. It does take discipline but in the long run, can produce a much greater level of health than the use and often misuse of diabetes drugs. Diabetes drugs work in different ways, some are beneficial in the short term and others are very detrimental. Diabetes drugs that increase insulin production are generally not good for the type II diabetic. There are some exceptions in more advanced cases, but in general, those with type II diabetes produce too much insulin in response to ingesting sugar-forming foods. Over time this creates a condition called insulin resistance. As the receptor cells become more and more resistant to insulin, the body must continually product more insulin to overcome insulin resistance. Fortunately, insulin resistance can be improved with key nutrients, which should be a part of any

Fat (LDL) Degradation: PMAP

www.proteolysis.org Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is a type of lipoprotein that transports cholesterol and triglycerides from the liver to peripheral tissues. LDL is one of the five major groups of lipoproteins; these groups include chylomicrons, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Like all lipoproteins, LDL enables fats and cholesterol to move within the water based solution of the blood stream. LDL also regulates cholesterol synthesis at these sites. It commonly appears in the medical setting as part of a cholesterol blood test, and since high levels of LDL cholesterol can signal medical problems like cardiovascular disease, it is sometimes called “bad cholesterol” (as opposed to HDL, the “good cholesterol”). Degradation of phosphatidylcholine to lysophosphatidylcholine occurs during oxidative modification of low density lipoproteins (LDL). It has been shown that this phospholipid hydrolysis is brought about by an LDL-associated phospholipase A2 that can hydrolyze oxidized but not intact LDL phosphatidylcholine.

The Cholesterol Lie: What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know

- Cholesterol does not cause heart disease, according to 15 years of research. - LDL (”bad cholesterol”) and HDL (”good cholesterol”) are actually proteins, not cholesterol. - According to research, heart disease is caused by the food additives glucose and fructose. Cholesterol is necessary for life, is made by the liver, and occurs in almost all living organisms. Many heart attack victims have normal cholesterol levels. High fructose corn syrup, added to many processed foods and colas, is the number one source of calories in the US. This explains why so many people have heart disease and diabetes. Diabetes is reversible in at least 95% of all cases. Good nutrition causes LDL particles to be larger, which is important because this keeps them from getting stuck during transport and causing damage. Cholesterol drugs do not affect particle size, have serious side effects, and kill thousands of people each year.
